Podcast Spotlight: See Jurassic Right
Like several others, I was really into dinosaurs as a kid. When the first Jurassic Park came out I couldn’t wait to go. I’m proud to say, since then my dinosaur fandom hasn’t wavered, but I do wear less T-Rex t-shirts. See Jurassic Right is my ideal podcast. It’s a podcast to share and reminisce about your love of the Jurassic franchise, dinosaurs in general, and speculate about where the future films will take us. With the new Fallen Kingdom film premiering soon, it’s time to say “life finds a way” and binge your favorite dinosaur podcast.
Creator and host, Steven Ray Morris, opens up the phone lines for fans to share their stories. New episodes debut on the last Tuesday of every month.
We were fortunate enough to catch up with Morris, nerd out over our favorite Jurassic films, and of course talk podcasting. See below for our Q&A.

Discover Pods: How’d you get into podcasting?
MORRIS: When I moved to Los Angeles in 2011 I discovered podcasts through the comedy scene and going to comedy shows. Since I already had experience doing audio recording while attending UC Santa Barbara it didn’t feel like a huge leap to start podcasting. So I started The Purrrcast (my cohost Sara Iyer and I chat with funny people about their cats) and gradually started engineering for other podcasts too, including My Favorite Murder with Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark. Due to that show’s success, I’ve been lucky to be podcasting full-time since 2017.
DP: In your own words, why should listeners tune into See Jurassic Right?
MORRIS: See Jurassic Right contextualizes and celebrates the warm and fuzzy feelings we get when thinking about our favorite movie, Jurassic Park (my favorite movie at least). Regardless of how you feel about Jurassic Park, I think all pop culture fans can relate and will enjoy the many stories about how this film has affected the lives of my guests and listeners!
DP: Can you power rank your Jurassic films?
MORRIS: Obviously Jurassic Park is number one with Jurassic World and The Lost World in a state of constant flux with JP3 coming in last if only for it’s low stakes approach and it’s feelings of what could have been (it had a very troubled production). Having seen the opening sequence of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, it’s no hyperbole in feeling that the fifth entry in the Jurassic franchise is a strong contender to claim the #2 spot when it comes out in a few weeks.
DP: How do you feel about the second wave of the Jurassic franchise?
MORRIS: As a dedicated Jurassic Park fan, I can definitely feel myself wanting more from Jurassic World and the upcoming Fallen Kingdom, BUT as far as summer blockbusters go, JW was a fun ride and got me excited about this previously dormant franchise.
DP: What’s the most difficult part of podcasting for you?
MORRIS: With See Jurassic Right specifically: getting more time to edit. Because the main episodes are a complex collage of guest interviews, listener phone calls, music, found audio, and my own VO, I’ve discovered that the more time I have to revise, the tighter the episode will be in the end.
DP: What podcasts are you listening to now?
MORRIS: I think I technically work on more podcasts now than I keep up with, but currently my weekly essential list is: Ethnically Ambiguous, Baby Geniuses, James Bonding and The Dollop.
DP: Anything else you’d like to add?
MORRIS: Yes! We’re doing a live podcast/trivia night in Los Angeles on June 22nd at Idle Hour to celebrate the release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. It’s free and there will be drink specials, prizes and a photo booth!
