Podcast Spotlight: The Eldritch Radio Hour
Last updated on February 4th, 2021
If you are feeling brave, or maybe you just like to be scared, check out this spooky, supernatural podcast. Most recently, it has shared a bizarre, multi-part audio drama known as ‘Aberrations,’ which is a theatrical take on the novel Tryst: Based on Actual Events by Aaron Eldritch. ‘Aberrations’ focuses on the life of three brothers courageously investigating strange happenings in their surrounding area. From dark woods to handwritten books, there’s something new at every turn. The best part of The Eldritch Radio Hour is the amazing storytelling. With different voice actors for each character, it is easy to tell the brothers apart. Their dialogue feels natural and the narrator helps to catch listeners up when needed. It is easy to imagine yourself in the story thanks to wonderful sound effects of singing birds and crunching grass. Each episode plays a part in the bigger picture, always leaving listeners wanting more. Fans of fiction and horror should definitely consider adding this to their playlist.
We were fortunate to talk with Eldritch about the The Eldritch Radio Hour, a horror podcast, how they differentiate from other podcasts, and their future plans in podcasting. See below for our full Q&A.

DISCOVER PODS: How’d you get into podcasting?
ELDRITCH: I grew up listening to dramatizations of various fantasy and horror novels including abridged versions of The Lord of the Rings, Dragon Lance, Sphere. Eventually I found Orson Welles’s radio broadcast of The War of the Worlds and that led to an entire realm of radio dramas. Over time the medium sort of shifted over from audio tape and CD to digital format in streaming or downloadable forms. Audio fiction is definitely one of the best types of podcasts!
DISCOVER PODS: In your own words, why should listeners tune in to The Eldritch Radio Hour?
ELDRITCH: Anyone who is a fan of classic radio drama should tune in to The Eldritch Radio Hour. I also think that anyone interested in horror, the paranormal, or true stories of hauntings, demonic possession, and alien abduction would enjoy the content on my podcast. It is all related in some way or another to my novel Tryst, which is based on true events – very scary and bizarre events! The content available at this time is an original full-cast audio drama which is essentially a dramatization of this novel.

DISCOVER PODS: What kind of feedback have you heard from your listeners?
ELDRITCH: Because my podcast is still quite new, I haven’t received any feedback yet. But I’d love to know what my fans think! This entire podcast has been a gift to them and to anyone looking for free entertainment during these trying times.
DISCOVER PODS: Describe your recording set up? What equipment are you using?
ELDRITCH: The equipment was provided by my director and I don’t have access to the equipment list at the moment. All equipment was, however, purchased specifically for this project and no compromises were made.
DISCOVER PODS: What’s the biggest challenge you face as an indie podcaster?
ELDRITCH: The biggest challenge for me as an indie podcaster has been marketing, for sure. It’s easy as a creator to think that once the creation has been brought into the world that the job is done. But if you can’t show the fruits of your passion to others, what’s the point? So that has been something I’ve really had to educate myself on as an artist. The same goes for writing. My story in Tryst is based on true events from my past, so I’ve stuck almost 100% to the true happenings. This was occasionally challenging to translate into a digestible format that would be as meaningful to readers as it was for me. But I must say, the end product makes me realize that I truly lived through an amazing story. The audio drama we’ve titled “Aberrations” on The Eldritch Radio Hour captures the spirit of this quite well.
DISCOVER PODS: Where do you want to take your podcast?
ELDRITCH: There’s a lot of potential in The Eldritch Radio Hour. When the audio drama “Aberrations” concludes, I’m thinking about creating original music that captures the spirit of my novel Tryst. There are also some characters – real people – in the novel that are possibly still out there living their lives, and I think it would be amazing if I could track them down and sit them down for an interview – maybe even get some deeper truth out of them! I’ll have to build up the courage for that but I think it would be great for not only my readers, but my own psyche.
DISCOVER PODS: What other podcasts are you listening to now?
ELDRITCH: Welcome to Night Vale, Lore, and The Magnus Archives are all excellent and I highly recommend them!

DISCOVER PODS: Anything else you’d like to add?
ELDRITCH: I just want to say thank you to all of my listeners, and fans of both my podcast The Eldritch Radio Hour and my novel Tryst: Based on Actual Events. If there’s one thing I ask, it’s that you continue to show your enthusiasm and support for all the creators and artists out there and remember that there’s plenty of amazing indie-produced art and entertainment waiting for your discovery, and a gripping full-cast production doesn’t need a television screen to turn your evening into hours of fun!
