Pods Review Pods: The Pollsters, Nerdette, & Gayest Episode Ever

Pods Review Pods is a weekly segment where podcasters review fellow podcasts.

I’m Kelly from Two Broads Talking Politics. Two Broads Talking Politics comes out twice a week. Sophy and I are working moms in the Midwestern US who are progressive activists and avid followers of US politics. On Wednesdays we do a deep dive into a topic; recent examples are Gerrymandering and Politics of Idaho, where we have three segments of interviews with experts in the field. On Fridays, I solo host and interview an activist or author or candidate. You can find us on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Google Play, Spotify, iHeartRadio, and pretty much anywhere you can find podcasts. We’re on Facebook and Twitter @TwoBroadsTalk.

The Pollsters

The Pollsters is a weekly podcast with, as you’d guess, two pollsters. One is Democratic Gen-X pollster Margie Omero and the other is Republican Millennial pollster Kristen Soltis Anderson. Although they represent different perspectives, they use those to explain the polls, not to bicker with each other. It’s a fun listen, and I have learned a ton about how polls are constructed and used and have a much better understanding of how to read the news now. Side note: I got to interview Kristen Soltis Anderson on our own podcast, talking about the politics of Millennials, and it was a super fan-girl moment for me!

Nerdette

Nerdette has long been one of my very favorite podcasts. It’s weekly when they’re in season, and episodes are about 30 minutes long. Hosts Tricia Bobeda and Greta Johnsen talk to really interesting people and geek out with them about their obsessions. Tricia and Greta are hilarious and seem to truly love what they get to do. They also have a spin-off show with Peter Sagal from Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, where the three of them review Game of Thrones episodes, and Tricia and Greta call out Peter anytime he starts to mansplain. I listen to a LOT of GOT podcasts, and theirs is my favorite.

Gayest Episode Ever

Gayest Episode Ever is like listening to my gay best friend talk about TV. In fact, after listening to the first episode I immediately emailed my gay best friend and told him he had to start listening! Glen and Drew take a weekly look at episodes of classic TV shows that deal with LGBTQ issues. They’ve explored shows like Frasier, Roseanne, and The Mary Taylor Moore Show, and give a tremendous amount of cultural and historical context for when the episodes came out and explore themes and characters and how audiences reacted to these episodes.
